Stereo EMT 140 Plate
Invented in 1957 by EMT of Germany, the plate reverb is essentially a thin metal plate that is suspended in a sound proofed enclosure. A transducer is mounted to the plate in order to generate vibrations in the metal. The corresponding reflections from the plate are picked up by a microphone (or two in the stereo versions like ours), which is located at the opposite end of the plate. A damping pad that is controlled by a servomotor varies the Reverb time. The motor presses the pad to the plate absorbing the energy creating shorter reverb tails. The time decay ranges on our units from 0 seconds to over 5 seconds long. These real analog reverbs are used in professional studios all over the world. They have a distinct, individual sound and each EMT plate has a character all its own. If you want Ardent’s classic reverb sounds, you have to hear these for yourself.
