On April 21, 2025, Ardent Studios installed a 48-channel Solid State Logic Duality Fuse Super
Analogue Console in Studio B.
After discussions with Phil Scholes from SSL, we selected this console to enhance our
workflow efficiency.
This desk embodies the latest advancement in a well-established industry standard that has
been in use for more than a decade.
Any uncertainty regarding its sound compared to the SSL 9000 was dismissed after SSL’s
impressive on-site demonstration.
While the SSL 9000 performed excellently, its design, which hails from the tape machine era,
restricts its compatibility with modern workflows.
Obtaining parts for the 9000 has become progressively challenging, making it essential to
minimize downtime, which prompted this change.
The Duality Fuse’s contemporary automation and routing features facilitate seamless project
integration from multiple locations, enhancing productivity without the necessity for workaround
solutions.
Furthermore, the additional 32 channels of analogue summing from SPL Labs allow for
processing sub mixed sounds directly into the mix bus, eliminating the need for extra full
channels.
With 48 standard channels available on the desk, this setup meets the requirements of most
users today, totaling 80 inputs without utilizing the small faders.
By incorporating these small faders, an extra 48 inputs become available, resulting in 128
inputs for mixing.
The trend towards smaller desks reflects a shift in workflows, yet mixing on a desk provides a
three-dimensional quality often absent in digital mixes, making the experience enjoyable.
