On April 22, 2025, Ardent Studios completed an agreement for a Neve BCM10 MK II 32-channel desk with classic 1073 modules from AMS Neve, set for installation this summer.

We chose this console for its efficiency and simplicity, noting that many new engineers find traditional desks complex and underutilized.

This desk represents a long-established industry standard utilized for over fifty years,

with the renowned Neve 1073 input module being legendary.

The console’s functionality as a tracking desk was a primary advantage, while its design allows for dual-path capability on every channel, enabling 64 inputs during mixdown.

We customized a 16-bus multitrack feed to the DAW for specific channels and added 32 Neve line channels for a “jukebox split feel” or extra playback inputs in larger sessions. Enabling up to 96 inputs on mix.

Opinions on vintage versus modern gear are common, but after investing in the new 88rs for Studio A, our skepticism about contemporary manufacturing waned due to its superior sound and reliability.

Our decision to acquire the new desk stemmed from the need for consistent reliability, functionality, and foundational sound.

While evaluating vintage desks, we considered maintenance costs and replacement parts; the new desk reassured us of its reliability.

In A/B tests between new Classic and Vintage 1073s, the new modules showed exceptional consistency across channels with reduced noise and distortion. Although vintage units are still impressive, differences were minimal in blind tests.

Ardent is proud to continue its 40+ year relationship with AMS NEVE.
