STUDIO B

Studio B

Studio B boasts a SSL 9072 console.

Along with a newly renovated control room, Studio B retains its legacy as the second of the original studios at Ardent’s Madison Avenue location, which opened in late 1971. Over the years, it has hosted some of Ardent’s most renowned clientele, serving as a crucial space for both tracking and mixing.

The control room occupies the original live room, which famously hosted most of ZZ Top’s iconic 1970s catalog. As technology evolved, so did Studio B. In 1985, an SSL 6056 console was purchased to enhance the studio’s capabilities. However, the desk proved too large for the existing control room, prompting a complete reversal and remodel of the space to accommodate the new equipment.

In 2023, the control room underwent another significant renovation, continuing Ardent’s tradition of updating and incorporating the best modern acoustic and technical sensibilities. The result is a world-class mixing environment, featuring precise stereo and Dolby Atmos monitoring from Bowers & Wilkins, ATC, McIntosh, and Trinnov, delivering an exceptional listening experience.

The live room in Studio B, measuring 24′ 17″ with a single moderately-sized isolation booth, offers an intimate atmosphere with a tight, focused sound that has earned it a loyal following over the years. Its charm and character make it a favorite for artists and engineers seeking a unique, cozy space to create.
